Chorley’s final re-season friendly ended in victory, with an 88th Marcus Carver strike separating the Magpies from a youthful Blackburn Rovers XI.
In truth Chorley should have won the game by a far more comfortable scoring, but results don’t matter until August 8th.
In the first half shots from Adam Roscoe (three times), Chris Almond, Adam Dodd and Carver were responded to with efforts by Connor Mahoney, David Carson and Joe Grayson (whose Dad Simon was in interested spectator); but neither keeper was beaten.
In the second half Dean Rittenberg shot wide then a Lewis Guy effort went over. Carson force Sam Ashton into a save before at the other end Guy and Carver combined, with claims for a penalty for a foul on Guy waived away.
Aaron Burns and Dale Whitham tried their luck, with the latter’s effort deflected for a corner, which the same player whipped in and Carver was on the spot to guide a header into Andrew Fisher’s net!
Next time it’s for real when Nuneaton Town visit Victory Park on August 8th in the Vanarama National League North, 3pm KO.
