Looking back at the major upsets in FA Cup history, the root cause of a shock result is often complacency from the allegedly stronger side, allowing David to bloody Goliath’s nose, while Goliath has an off-day. The chasm between Chorley and Glossop North End is far from being as significant as that between the likes of Hereford and Newcastle, nor West Brom and Woking, to quote just two famous upsets, but the simplified expectation was always for the Magpies to advance to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the 2010 FA Cup.
