AFC Fylde 0-1 Chorley - 02/02/2013

Saturday February 2nd, 3pm

THE Magpies earned sweet revenge over AFC Fylde with a last minute winner from Adam Roscoe claiming the spoils in this Lancashire derby.

The Magpies donned a brand new third choice kit - red shirts and socks with black shorts - kindly provided and sponsored by club kit suppliers Galaxy Football of Croston.

In a quiet first half neither keeper was fully tested.  The hosts saw two efforts blocked just after the half hour, and then Darren Stephenson scooped a shot across the face of goal.

One-time Magpie Jame Dean headed wide then thought he had scored when a punched clearance from Jack Cudworth was returned into the area, but the big striker was well offside when he helped the ball over the line.

As the break approached Dale Whitham chipped the keeper and the cross bar, then Stephenson turned his man but his shot went the wrong side of the up right.

So at the interval, all fair and square with all to play for, but not for long!

Just three minutes into the second half midfielder Harry Winter was shown a deserved straight red card for a crude tackle on captain Andy Teague.

With a man advantage the Magpies started to take control and John Cunliffe, on for Ashley Parillion, began to pull the strings in midfield, though it wasn’t all one way traffic.

Keeper Jack Cudworth, who has been under pressure in recent weeks to perform, pulled off three top class saves to keep the score level, a double save to deny Dean and fellow ex-Magpies Jack Dorney, and a finger-tip tip-over at full stretch.

Chorley, playing a 4-2-3-1 formation for much of the game probed forward, putting their oppenents under pressure.  Keil O’Brien almost got onto the end of one ball into the box, but 6’4” strikers legs weren’t quite long enough as he stretched for the ball.

Ahmadi Porya was brought on for the quiet Tom Ince to add to give Stephenson assistance up front.

Dale Whitham headed narrowly wide and Adam Roscoe was unlucky to hit the woodwork minutes from the end as time appeared to be running out, but when as much as four minutes is added to any game there are invariably more chances, and in the 92 minutes Adam Roscoe rose to hammer in a header from a John Cunliffe corner to the delight of the +150 travelling Chorley supporters.
