Kendal Town - 01/01/2013

New Years Day, 3pm
League

All at Chorley FC will be hoping todays result is the sign of things to come after the difficult end to 2012.

The home side, changed almost from recognition following the departure of manager Lee Ashcroft and the majority of this squad to Northwich (Stafford) Victoria in December, fought hard throughout the first half, putting in a display that was way above the level you’d expect from a side sat third from bottom of the league and took a deserved lead just two minutes from the break.

However a more resolute Magpies performance in the second half got the visitors back into the game and once Andy Teague netted the equaliser on the hour mark there was only going to be one winner as the hosts collapsed.

With the flu bug hitting the squad hard Tom Walker was rested to the bench with Tom Ince covering at left-back while Teague continued in the midfield.

Dale Whitham, back from illness, almost opened the scoring on 7 minutes, but his shot cannoned of a teammate then Adam Roscoe headed over from a corner.

Kendal for all their possession and pressing rarely tested Jack Cudworth early on and the closest the came to scoring before they actually did ended to Mark Ross heading off the line.

John Cunliffe, who had been looking back to his best and fully fit in recent weeks, left the action after just 34 minutes with a pulled hamstring, Walker leaving the bench to replace him.

When the goal did come on 43 minutes it came from a throw on the half way line that wasn’t cleared and Maison McGeechan netted from the edge of the box as the defence looked to be taking an early break.

After the interval Kendal had two great chances to finish the game but a great Cudworth save and an astonishing missed left the game open of the Magpies.

Captain Teague then turned the game around on 59 minutes hammering beyond Craig Dootson from 12 yards from a Darren Stephenson cross.

Three minutes later it was two-one, when Adam Roscoe netted the goal of the game.  The winger created the goal himself and with some smart short passed he progressed into the area before firing beyond a rooted Dootson.

Roscoe then turned provider for Andy Russell to flick a cross home on 69 minutes before Teague finished the scoring heading in an Ince corner, the well-practiced move finally worked!

Chorley could have added to their tally as the home side’s obvious inexperience saw the game slip from their grasp and the Magpies took full advantage to move up to seventh in the league table
