Stafford Rangers 1-0 Chorley - 30/10/2012

Tuesday October 30th, 7.45pm

THE Magpies ragged start to the season continued with a single goal defeat at Stafford Rangers

A dreadful second half performance lost the game for the visitors, but had first half possession been converted into goals there would have been no way back for the hosts after the interval.

Adam Roscoe, Dave Mellor and Ciaran Kilheeney all had chances when attacking down the Marston Road slope in the first 45 minutes, but there should have been many more attempts on Adam Alcock’s goal as Chorley dominated the first half.

Jack Cudworth was a mere a spectator!

Following good play on the left flank between Mellor and Tom Ince, Roscoe headed just over the bar on 3 minutes, then on 18 minutes Mellor slammed a shot into the area only to see it blocked by the Rangers defence.

The best chance of the half fell to leading scorer Ciaran Kilheeney on 36 minutes.  He received a deep ball into the box, and after seeing Alcock save his first effort, he second attempt was charged down.

After the interval it was as if a different Chorley team emerged from the dressing room, with the hosts taking control of the game while the visitors failed to string passes together.

Cudworth made up for his lack of action in the open 45, making a string of top saves, but couldn’t prevent Daniel Quinn’s looping header from e free-kick from giving the home side the lead just after the hour mark.

At the final whistle the home supporters celebrated as if they’d won a cup final, while a dejected Magpies contingent departed a quickly as possible.
