Chorley 2-0 Stafford Rangers - 06/04/2013

Saturday April 6th, 3pm

The Magpies maintained their magnificent form with a two-nil victory over Stafford Rangers at Victory Park.

Just three months our promotion hopes looked dead in the water, but ten wins and a draw in the fourteen games played since Boxing Day, including the current seven wins in eight, has seen our hopes increase week in week out and now we stand just three points away from third place!

The goals were scored at either ends of the game by Adam Roscoe in the 6thminutes and Darren Stephenson in the 88th, with both players bagging their ninth goals of the campaign.

Roscoe’s goal, a back stick header, was put on a plate for him by Porya Ahmadi; the Iranian’s inch perfect 40 yard cross leaving his strike partner the easy job of nodding home.

The winning goal was netted by Stephenson from close range.  Andy Russell and Paul Jarvis combined on the left with Russell crossing.  Roscoe nodded down to Stephenson and the former Southport striker tapped home from close range.  However a linesman’s flag looked like having the goal disallowed, but the eagle eyed assistant was flagging to award a penalty to the Magpies for handball.  The referee decided to allow the goal rather than award the spot-kick, much to the displeasure of the Rangers players.

Between the two goals Chorley dominated the first half and should have added to their tally as Dale Whitham (twice), Roscoe, Ahmadi and Keil O’Brien all had chances.

After the interval Stafford came into the game more but only really troubled the Magpies just minutes before our second goal when a deft flick resulted in a volleyed shot going narrowly over, otherwise the back five were as solid as a rock throughout.

Starting XI: Jack Cudworth, Mark Ross, Andy Russell, Andy Teague, Keil O’Brien, Dale Whitham, Paul Jarvis, Tom Baker, Adam Roscoe, Cameron Darkwah, Porya Ahmadi
