Chorley 2-1 Buxton - 16/03/2013

Saturday March 16th, 3pm

CHORLEY maintained their excellent run of form recording a fourth straight victory with a two-one win over Buxton that was far more comfortable than the result suggests.

In front of the second highest attendance of the season at Victory Park, and playing in the clubs new third choice away kit of red for comic relief, goals from Tom Baker and Porya Ahmadi in each half set the Magpies on the read to victory, but missed chances and a Matty Thornhill strike ten minutes from time meant a nervy finish to the game.

New signings Paul Jarvis from AFC Fylde and Baker from Ashton United have yet to taste defeat for the Magpies, both with 100% records from their three games, and again today both played their parts in the win.

Baker scored a scorched of a free-kick following a foul on Adam Roscoe after just nine minutes.  The diminutive midfielder curled the ball into the top corner from 20 yards, leaving visiting keeper Ian Deakin flat out in the back of the goal as the stopper injured himself in his attempt to stop the shot.  Deakin was replaced by substitute keeper Andrew Mills just before the half hour mark after trying to soldier on.

Roscoe thought he’d added to the score with a close effort, but the ball was cleared off the line, than in the minutes before Deakin departed the injured keeper played his part in preventing four clear chances on goal in a goal line melee come pinball wizard display in the six yard area; Ahmadi, Jarvis, Tom Ince & Dale Whitham all denied.

As the half came to a close Ahmadi and Ince combined, with Ince returning the ball to Ahmadi, but the Iranian’s control let him down with the goal gapping.

After the break a rasping Roscoe cross flew across the face of the goal with neither Jarvis nor Whitham able to apply the finishing touch

The Chorley had the best of the chances, it wasn’t all one way traffic, but most of the Bucks chances failed to test keeper Jack Cudworth, and from a Buxton attach Chorley his on the counter.  Ahmadi released Jarvis, who in turn put Ince through on goal, but the wingers shot flow wide.

Baker was floored with a wrestling style clothesline and from the resulting free-kick Baker found Andy Russell, who nodded onto Roscoe to head in from close range, only to see the goal chalked off for off-side.

The second goal finally came and Baker was again involved.  This time the midfielders deep corner found Ince who returned the ball into the box and Ahmadi turned the ball in from six yards with a little over quarter of an hour to go.

Buxton, themselves still holding out hope of making the play-offs, struck back with ten to go when Thornhill finished well from 12 yards completing a quick counter attack down the Magpies left flank.

With injury time looming Buxton smashed a shot into the side netting as the Magpies looked to close the game out.

Next Saturday Chorley entertain the league bottom club Eastwood Town at Victory Park, and we’ll be back in black & white for this one!
