Chorley 1-0 Blyth Spartans - 12/01/2013

Saturday January 12th, 3pm

CHORLEY recorded only their second league double of the season with a Dale Whitham wander goal ensuing all three points stayed in Lancashire.

In a cage first half neither side created a clear cut chance, though work experience signing from Blackburn Rovers Curtis Haley did think he’s netted a debut goal, but it was rightly ruled out for offside.

Blyth, with two towering centre forwards, looked to play to their obvious strength, but the Magpies back line stood firm and the closest the visitors came to netting was from a cross that was cleared off the line.

John Cunliffe’s return from injury lasted only 23 minutes as Jamie Vermiglio returned to action following a 3-match ban as the attackers hamstring tightened up.

The second half was a much more controlled Chorley performance, with three chances in the opening minutes blocked by desperate lunges in the Blyth box.

The winning goal arrived on 69 minutes when Whitham thundered a 20-yarder in off the underside of the bar, rounding off a fine Magpies move.

Chorley had other chances to add to their lead, but the 608 home crowd were more than happy to see a win with the added bonus of a clean sheet.
