Chorley 1-0 Marine - 26/12/2012

Boxing Day, 3pm

Chorley finally ended their winless run with a win over Marine that was far more comfortable than the score line suggests.

John Cunliffe was the orchestrator of almost every Chorley attack, pulling the strings from in ‘the hole’ between midfield and scorer Darren Stephenson.

The winning goal arrived just before the hour mark and what a Christmas cracker is was, with Stephenson drilling in hard and low from 25 yards when nothing appeared to be on for him, giving Callum Williams in the Mariners goal no chance.

Jack Cudworth pulled off a number of good saves at the other end and Tom Walker headed one chance off the line in the first half, but it was Chorley who controlled proceedings and on another day with their shooting boots on could have had a net full with Andy Teague, Cunliffe, Stephenson, Tom Ince and Adam Roscoe all having numerous chances and Cunliffe was also denied two penalty appeals.

Starting XI: Jack Cudworth, Mark Ross, Tom Walker, Andy Teague, Andy Russell, Dale Whitham, Adam Roscoe, Jamie Vermiglio, John Cunliffe, Darren Stephenson, Tom Ince

Subs: Keil O’Brien, Peter Collinge, Steve Flitcroft, Ahmadi Porya (Cunliffe, 85), Simon Garner (Vermiglio, 37)

Att: 582

Goal: DARREN STEPHENSON (59) Man of the Match: John Cunliffe, inspirational throughout
