Boston United 3-2 Chorley 17/10/2009

Saturday October 17th, 3pm
FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round

For the second week running Chorley gave higher level opponents a two goal start, but this time fought back and were unlucky not to get at least a replay from this encounter.

Boston United hit man Danny Davidson, tall, quick and strong - a handful for any team, gave the Pilgrims a dream start with goals on 4 and 9 minutes, capitalising on a lack lustre start by the visitors.

However unlike last week at Northwich, Chorley turned the game around and for the remaining 80 minutes more than matched their UniBond Premier Division hosts... winning the remainder of the game 2-1!

Zac Hibbert had undoubtedly his best game in black and white (well, actually green) with two key one-on-one blocks and commanded his area well, with the post also coming to his rescue on 31 minutes as Boston his Chorley in the break.  In the middle of the park Jamie Vermiglio and Adam Kozlowski controlled the midfield and up front Terry Fearns fired home two excellent goals.

Fearns first and easiest chance came and went in the 37th minute when put through one-on-one, with a target 8 yards by 8 foot high he managed to pick out the keeper nose, almost taking his head off with the shot!

However he made up for this in the 45th minute when he wriggled past three defenders before slotting home his twelfth of the season.

After the interval Chorley continued to have the upper hand, and the equaliser arrived when Danny Nolan, who was put through by Vermiglio, chipped the ball across the box to ace predator Fearns, who acrobatically over head kicked the ball beyond the rooted keeper on the hour mark.

Parity only lasted six minutes though as Danny Sleath was allowed too much time and passed the ball into the far corner of the goal.

Both teams had chances to score following this, but no more goals came and as this was our final cup fixture of the season we can now concentrate on the league!
