Mossley 2-2 Chorley 31/08/2009

Monday August 31st, 3pm

A share of the spoils was perhaps the fairest result from a game that took a while to get going.

Chorley kicked off with the same eleven that beat Nostell Miners Welfare two days earlier, and despite have the majority of the early possession failed to make this count and ended up going a goal behind when Graham Kay's looping effort, following a poorly cleared Lilywhites corner, deceived Zac Hibbert in the Chorley goal on 23 minutes

Danny Nolan tested ex-Magpie Peter Collinge from 18 yards just after the half hour mark, the keeper palming the effort wide, then five minutes later Nolan almost got onto the end of a Chris Smalley cross.  Then just before the break Terry Fearns picked up a long ball, but hiss pass to strike partner Chris Amadi wasn't as accurate as his shooting often is.

Other than these three moments, the goal knocked the Magpies out of their stride and although Mossley rarely threatened to double their lead, Chorley looked at sixes and sevens.

Following a half time rollicking and a double substitution Chorley hit back immediately after the restart.

Karl Brown, who had struggled for most of the half following a heavy tackle early on made way with Michael Owens replacing his, and Chris Smalley was sacrificed at the back to enable Christian Sawicki to attack down the right flank, with 4-4-2 replacing the 5-2-3 formation that didn't work earlier.

Just two minutes into the half the scored were level when Fearns showed the cutting edge  Mossley had been coveting by firing home following a great pass by Nolan

Two minutes later the Magpies were in front when Chris Amadi finished well from a Jamie Holme ball.

Chorley were now on top and looked for the third, but Mossley got back into the game following a double substitution, bringing ALL their subs(!), and this opened up the game into an end to end game.

As the game opened up, more and more pressure was placed on both goals, and Mossley when close just minutes before their equaliser was gifted to them.

Veteran defender Martin Clarks miss timed 72 minute challenge in the corner of the 18 yard box resulted in Matt Kay converting the spot kick to level the scores.
