A Burnley FC legend having played over 300 games between 1951 and 1961 for the Turf Moor club.
Capped once by England in 1954 when he helped beat Northern Ireland 2-0, he played in the same side as captain Billy Wright, Nat Lofthouse and Stanley Matthews.
Also played for Bolton Wanderers, Bury, Barrow, his home town club Leyland Motors as well as Chorley where he was player-manager in the last 1960's.
Has two spells as manager of the Magpies, leading the club to victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup and promotion to the Football Conference in the late 1980's.
Became a director following his second spell as manager in the early 2000's, then became Chairman following the sudden death of his predicessor Jack Kirkland in the summer of 2003.
