John Cunliffe retires

Chorley FC are sad to announce that John Cunliffe has decided to retire from football with immediate effect following a long battle with injury.

Garry Flitcroft said today: "I'm gutted to be losing the lad, especially someone with John's talent but to be fair he has been struggling since the end of last season with an ankle problem which meant he found it difficult to train & play, we have been nursing him through in the hope of getting 60 or 70 minutes out of him in games".

Flitcroft went on to add "Losing the lad is bad enough but to lose him after the transfer deadline has left us unable to replace him at a crucial point in the season & has left us short on numbers if we pick up any injuries.

"For some reason John has chosen to call it a day before the end of the season.

"He had a difficult decision to make regarding his long term health & mobility, he must have made his mind up before the Whitby game but for whatever reason didn't contact me to let me know which for me is the biggest disappointment in all this."
