Magpies make the long walk

FOOTBALL fans will embark on a £12,000 fund raising drive this week – to raise money for a new public address system. Chorley FC is asking fans to take part and help out.

Fans have complained for several seasons that the existing PA system at the Victory Park club makes it impossible to hear all the announcements. The Chorley FC Supporters Club are to kick-start a fund-raising campaign with a sponsored walk. They’ll be walking to Eagley FC, on the northern edge of Bolton on Saturday 28th July. The 16-mile walk will be the first of a series of fundraising events and the organisers are hoping it will encourage other volunteers and sponsors to come forward. They’ll be setting off from Victory Park at 8am on the day and will be carrying buckets en route for donations.

Chorley FC Supporters Club vice chairman Josh Vosper will be one of those taking part. He said, "It’s been there for years. Mike Neild has been operating the existing public address system manually for years but the equipment is making it harder for people to hear what he’s saying. A lot of people are complaining, saying how bad it is to hear announcements such as substitutes, other information for fans, the Golden Goal half time draw."

"The club gave us a quote and we said we would adhere to it and try and raise as much as we can towards it." He joked "The Olympics will have started and judging by the fitness of some of our members it will be an Olympic effort for us too." "But there’s a serious side to it to. Garry Flitcroft is doing everything he can on the pitch to get the club ready for promotion and we have to bring Victory Park up to scratch too. Chorley Football Club has grown vastly since Flitcroft joined and the supporters club seems to have been standing still. We’re getting average gates of 800-900 and it’s time to recruit more members".

He added "We don’t know how long it will take to raise £12,000 but this is just the start and hopefully others will follow suit. We are also looking for new members to join our Supporters Club and our next meeting is on August 2nd at 8pm in the Social Club, it’d be great to see some new faces." Anyone wishing to sponsor the walkers or join the Chorley FC Supporters Club should see a representative at any of the club’s pre-season games or call Josh Vosper on 07773 688936.
