MATCH PREVIEW | Chorley FC V Marine

The Magpies entertain Marine on Saturday in the first round proper of the Buildbase FA Trophy, with Matt Jansen’s side looking to progress to the last 32 of the competition for the first time in three seasons, writes Alex Birch.

Standing in their way are Tommy Lawson’s struggling Mariners who sit 21st in the Evo-Stik Premier Division. However, the Merseysiders bring excellent cup form to Victory Park, including a 1-0 victory over FC United of Manchester in the last round.

Better luck this year?: Chorley exited the competition at this stage last season following a 1-0 defeat at home to National League Guiseley.

Varied: The Lilywhites have played and beaten sides from National League North, Evo-Stik Premier Division, and Evo-Stik Division 1 North in this year’s Trophy.

Up for the cups: Despite Marine’s league struggles their only cup defeat in seven outings this season came at the hands of Ashton United in the FA Cup on September 2.
