LATEST NEWS | Club raise £250 for Poppy Appeal

Chorley FC would like to thank all supporters who contributed to Saturday’s Poppy Appeal collection, which raised £250. The club also held a two minute’s silence prior to the Nuneaton Town game as everyone inside The Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium paid their respects to the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community, past and present

Glyn Gaskell, chairman of the Chorley branch of the Royal British Legion and parade marshal, said: “We’re glad to get involved with Chorley FC and every year we continue to grow. Last year, in total the town managed to raise £31,950 for the appeal - with all the money going to London which gets distributed. The biggest message I have to say is we need more people to come and volunteer - especially in the supermarkets. Even a few hours would help so I’d urge anybody to get in touch next year.” Royal British Legion officials and dignitaries were invited at the weekend, plus cadets and the Mayor of Chorley, Councillor Mark Perks.

Commercial Manager Josh Vosper said: “The Poppy Appeal is encouraging the public to recognise that your poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope. The work of the Legion is as relevant today as it was during the aftermath of the First World War when the charity was founded. The donation of your poppy will help the Legion support today’s armed forces community through hardships, injury and bereavements. As a club we are proud to support the Poppy Appeal and I’d like to thank everyone who dug deep and donated.”

Limited edition FA Cup shirts, which feature the poppy are also now on sale in the club shop. A short supply sized large are available to buy on a first come, first served basis priced at £50 each.
