BILL RECEIVES FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION AWARD

Bill Yates has recently been presented with the Football Association’s fifty year long service award at Lancashire Football Association’s headquarters. The Parish Councillor has been involved in local football since the age of 16-years-old - running teams through the local youth club in Clayton and Whittle from way back in 1967.

From there he ran Whittle JFC, played for The Red Cat, Atkinsons Vehicles, The Royal Oak FC, and then managed the following teams - Gillibrand Warriors, Iddon Brothers, Chorley FC Reserves and Youth Team, The Duke of York FC and The Dog Inn FC. He also manged the following representative squads - Chorley Jubilee Youth FL, Preston and District League and the Chorley Sunday League. Other clubs he managed were Multipart FC and Lisieux Hall FC, plus he is the current President of Whitle Wanderers FC.

Talking about his achievement, Bill said: “I’ve been involved in football a long time and proud to receive such an award from the Football Association. There’s been many highs over the years but one of my proudest moments was winning the Lancashire Youth Cup during the eighties as a coach at Chorley FC. We became the first club to win the trophy during three years in succession; 1980-81, 1981-82 and 1982-83.” Yates still helps the club on match days and goes to the away games, helping with kit in the dressing room. His other passion is the Lancashire FA and has achieved much success at Thurston Road. He added: “I’d like to thank all those who played a part in helping achieve this award, as there’s so many to acknowledge during my time involved at grass roots level.”

Congratulations Bill from everyone at the club.
