Crowdfunder - Summer Report

Back at the beginning of March we launched the Crowdfunder campaign.  It was something of a gamble as nothing like it had been attempted by anyone connected to the club before; Would people buy into the spirit of what we were trying to achieve?  Was the target too ambitious?  Would we be able to capture to interest of people outside the immediate “Chorley FC Family”?

Pretty mush straight away all fears were gone.  The support of people near and far was superb.  Many of course had connections to The Magpies, but quite a few people who supported the campaign didn’t, including supporters of rival clubs - if you donated £10 or £250, THANK YOU.

When the campaign concluded, after Crowdfunder fees, a massive £5875 was raised and immediately the money went to work.

Blackburn based security firm NIS Ltd offered the club a massive discount on providing and installed a top of the range monitored CCTV security system, and  we’ve already seen early results!

The financial donations were only one outcome of the campaign, we also asked for ‘grafters’ and got plenty of them.  Over the summer months volunteers have been hard at work at Victory Park and local businesses have also rallied, many offering their services and equipment at cost or even for free.

The Secure Our Stadium campaign was initially launched to help remove the issue of vandalism at Victory Park, but at the time of the launch a second problem hit the club.  The club received news that the Duke Street end terrace roof had been condemned and were forced with the stark choice of either removing the roof during the close season to closing that end of the ground completely!

This week work was completed on the roof removal, meaning we’re all facing the prospect of a picking up a tan during pre-season…  Let’s not think about the winter months just yet!!!

It was decided that both causes would benefit from the Crowdfunder and if finances allowed, other areas of work would also receiving backing from the fund.  This made it possible for the club to acquire in the last couple of weeks a pitch irrigation system.  The installation of two water tanks and a concrete plinth have been completed.  This new system added to the summer pitch remediation work will hopefully provide Victory Park with a playing surface that will allow football to be played.

Finally, with pre-season just around the corner everyone will be able see for themselves where the money, time and effort has been spent during the summer.  For those interested in the detail of the spending here are the current accounts of the Crowdfunder campaign with the donations received for labour and equipment added to show the true value of everyone’s' generosity.
