Ground Improvements Well Underway

During the close season supporters may take a break from football, but there is a lot of activity taking place at The Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium in preparation for the 2015/16 National League North season.

One thing that has been on Garry’s wish list for some time is improvements to the playing surface.  The pitch has suffered over the last couple of season and work is well underway to remedy these issues.

The entire playing surface has been scarified to remove thatch and all the dead grass from the surface.  The benefit of doing this as this will prevent the surface from cutting up, which over a prolonged period leads to ruts and means the pitch is no longer conducive to a passing style of play.

On competition of the scarification 100 tonnes of sand was been smoothed onto the pitch to level the surface.  This will be followed by verti-draining and reseeding of the full playing area.

The club are also holding discussion with a local football league side to acquire a pitch irrigation system.

These improvements are just the start for the pitch and will remediate the issues we’ve seen in recent season, but going forward further investment will be needed to keep the pitch’s progress in line with the teams.

Off the pitch work is well underway too.

The installation of a brand new CCTV and Alarm system to help Secure Our Stadium has been completed.

This work has taken place thanks to your generosity through the Crowdfunder campaign and also thanks to season ticket holder Wayne Blore who works for Blackburn based security firm NIS Ltd.  NIS supplied a top of the range system CCTV system and an upgrade to all existing security equipment at a massively discounted price.

And work has started on the Duke Street end stand roof.

As you all know this was condemned during our most recent ground grading review and already the metal sheets from the roof and roof sides have been removed and work to remove the steelwork and concrete columns is set to start.

Designs are being finalised on the replacement roof which shouldn’t require planning permission as it is a like for like replacement; but the work will need to meet stringent local authority building control conditions to ensure is it structurally stable and safe.

Timescales on when the roof will be completed will be announced shortly once the designs are completed and full costings calculated.

Also, during the summer months at every football ground the length and breadth of the country there are many ‘minor’ jobs that need to be carried out, such a painting, weeding, small repairs etc.  The Supporters Trust have a ‘working party’ who spend time at the ground helping out.  If you can spare a few hours then why not volunteer your services, visit the Magpies In Space forum, on there is a “Close season clean up at VP” thread where you can find out what is needed , what people are doing and when.
