BREAKING NEWS | Haughton joins Salford City

Nick Haughton has completed a permanent move from Fleetwood Town to Salford City after ending his loan spell at Chorley FC early this week.

The 23-year-old has agreed a full-time contract at the Peninsula Stadium and put pen to paper on a two and a half year deal with the National League North leaders, for an undisclosed fee.

Haughton’s spell at Victory Park was a huge success, with him scoring 13 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions, including a stunning hat-trick against Boston United in the Emirates FA Cup back in October.

Chorley manager Matt Jansen said: “We are sorry to be losing Nick who has done a great job for us during his time with the club.”

“I suppose we always knew this could happen, as it is the danger with loan signings who do well, but we have to move on now. We wish Nick all the best for the future.”

Chief Executive Dave Riche said: “Nick has secured himself a full time deal with Salford City and there has been a lot of interest in him during his time with Chorley FC.

“We have offered him a shop window to show off his skills after Fleetwood Town loaned him to us and we thank them for giving us an opportunity to help develop him further.

“It goes without saying that we have benefitted as a club during his four and a half month stay, and we always knew he wanted to stay in full time football. Personally, we would like to thank Fleetwood – in particular chairman Andy Pilley - for keeping us in the loop and letting us know as soon as a deal had been done, and we are working with them to try and strengthen our squad further.

“The task now is to continue our winning ways and get back into the play-off places and progress further as a club.”
