MATCH PREVIEW | Nuneaton v Chorley

The Magpies (9th, 44pts) head to Warwickshire on Saturday for their Vanarama National League North encounter with a galvanised Nuneaton Town (12th, 39pts), writes Alex Birch.

Sitting four points back of the playoffs with 12 games remainingMatt Jansen’s men remain locked in a battle to secure their third post-season berth in four years.

A tricky opponent awaits at Liberty Way, however, as five wins in six games have propelled ‘The Boro’ away from the drop zone, with Dino Maamria’s charges now firmly entrenched in mid-table.

Team news

Matt Jansen has a fully-fit squad to choose from, with Jake Cottrell back in contention after missing Saturday’s victory over Gainsborough through illness.

The Magpies came from two down to salvage a draw under the lights in a pulsating game back in November. Josh Wilson and Matty Hughes were Chorley’s scorers, cancelling out earlier goals by Jordan Nicholson and Ashley Chambers, in front of 1,306 fans.

Magpie In The Spotlight ...

CENTRAL MIDFIELDER  /  Left Back

Joined the Magpies from FC United in the summer of 2013.

An all action midfielder who never gives the opposition a rest, so much so that he is rumours to have three lungs!

Started his career in the North West Counties with Oldham Town from where he moved to FC United and in his first season at Gigg Lane he swept the board in the end -of-season awards.

He scored a famous goals in the FA Cup for the Red Rebels against Rochdale and Brighton & Hove Albion; his stunning left-footed strike which helped FCUM beat Rochdale 3-2 in the first round led to him being voted E.ON Player of the Round.

He played a key role in the Magpies Evo-Stik Premier division title success in 2013/14, but the following season he suffered a sickening facial injury at Tamworth which resulted in him missed a long spell.
